Inquiry Update

Inquiry Update

For my Inquiry this term, Me and a group of people ran a Junior Christmas Disco. We had to organize lots of things, including what place we were going to donate to. we chose to donate all of the money we made, plus dog food donations to dog watch. they are a company that rescue stray dogs from the pound, and all the money will be going to scales and agility equipment for the dogs they look after.

We also had to organize things we were going to buy, decorations, and certain ideas like pre orders, and selling at the disco. This meant we had to learn to agree to disagree with each other.

Now all the Disco team have to do now, is donate to dog watch, which means we will get to see the dogs we did the disco for.

Overall I feel very proud of what I have contributed, and happy I get to help out the dogs at dog watch with our donations.

Book Into Movie

This week we had to write something about a book we have been reading turning into a movie. the only book I have been reading has already become a movie, so I just had to make do with the date release from years ago.

-My Work-

Inquiry

For my Inquiry this term, Me and a few other people have been organizing a Junior Christmas disco.
The Inquiry topic is about helping people in our community, and the way we are helping out the community, and incorporating the topic into our disco, is by giving all the proceeds to a company called Dog Watch, This company looks after abandoned, stray, and abused dogs, and finds them a home when they are ready to be adopted,

More recently we have been working on creating a song playlist and editing/printing our posters, order sheets, and also our flyers which will advertise our disco, and will contain useful information for Juniors attending the disco.

At the moment, we are working on getting our advertisements to the classrooms and buying and preparing all the decorations we are using to decorate the disco. We still need to go shopping to get our decorations and our items we will be selling at the disco.

I feel like my experience with organizing things will help us get along with our disco, and will hopefully help us in the long run.

Sherbet Science

Sherbet Science
This term we have been doing science experiments to learn the chemistry behind them. one of our
choices was sherbet.

Method
This is how we made the sherbet

Ingredients- Plastic cup, measuring spoons, icing sugar, citric acid, and baking soda.

Step 1 Put 1 teaspoon of baking soda into a plastic cup.

Step 2 Put 1 teaspoon of citric acid into the same plastic cup.

Step 3 And finally add 2 tablespoons of icing sugar into the cup.

Hypothesis
Before the experiment, we thought that when we ate the sherbet, it would foam up and react with our saliva.
This is because we know that the saliva would react with something in the sherbet

Results
Our Hypothesis was correct, and the sherbet made our mouths foam. This is because our saliva reacts with
the acid that is in the baking soda, this makes the sherbet start to foam up. This happens because the saliva
breaks the bonds in the mixture

Conclusion
In conclusion, The sherbet is made from citric acid, icing sugar, and baking soda, which reacts with saliva
and makes the sherbet foam up in your mouth, this is because the saliva breaks the bonds in the sherbet

The Equation
In the chemistry behind the sherbet, there is an equation. The equation is the atoms used in
the sherbet, the atoms can be found on the periodic table.
3NaHCO3 + C6H8O7 3Na + C6 H5 O7 + 3H2O + 3CO

Talent Quest Update

Talent Quest Update

This year I have been working on Talent Quest, The talent quest just started yesterday and will be going for 2 weeks. It has been running smoothly aside from the fact that some little kids didn't show up, and that the script was mucked up. I'm looking forward to doing more of the talent quest.

Talent Quest

Talent Quest

For the last two terms, I have been working on Talent Quest for Rāwhiti School.  This has been really challenging to do talent quest, AND do my work. we are just wrapping up talent quest right now with most of, if not all of the work finished.

Here are many things we struggled with finishing

  • The Script we are using on the day.
  • Getting people into our sign up spreadsheet, and getting them on certain days.
  • Getting people from around the classrooms
  • Fixing errors in certain documents
  • Making sure we get everything in the sign up sheets, certificates, ETC.

And a lot more!

Inquiry Reflection

Inquiry Reflection
At the beginning of the term, I did a quiz on the Careers NZ website and discovered
that some jobs might interest me are Graphic Designer, Chef, and Digital Artist.
From my Strengths Explorer Survey I discovered that my top three strengths are relater
discoverer, and organizer.
Thinking about these I decided to focus on the career of a digital artist.
I got information from the Careers website, as well as my own personal experience.
I organised my information into a  slideshow and presented it to my classmates and the
year 6 students at our Rāwhiti Career Expo.

One thing I learned is how much digital artists get paid, which is around $20-70 per hour.

Minecraft Dream Whare

At school over the last few weeks, Me, and a few others got chosen for a Minecraft challenge, the challenge was making our dream Whare (House) in Minecraft.

Riley, and I worked together to build the house shown above but I missed out on quite a few sessions, but i still helped a lot with it. It was very fun and I really enjoyed it.

We had to make a few changes, either due to feedback, or to make the house aesthetically pleasing, or because of features that didn't work, such as the panda habitat.

Family Focus

Family Focus

Today I read an article about real migrants, and learnt from a video the reasons why people migrate, and that there’s 2 different factors, push and pull factors, push factors are things that, well push you out, such as war, politics, and many more, pull factors are, literally what pulls you to another country, these are more positive as its your own choice.
The main reasons this family chose to move was because of the fathers job, and to focus on family life
But what are the push and pull factors in this story? Well, maybe the pull factor was the fact that the Farther in this story,Fabio had a job in new zealand, so he had to leave, But the pull might have been that the family would like to focus on family, and New Zealand was a good place.
But moving to another country will always be hard, and here are the reasons why I would be pushed, and/or pulled out of New Zealand
Pushed out
-War
-Better healthcare?
-for my future career
-Family
Pulled towards
-Cultural side of things
-To learn interesting stuff
And so on so forth.

But where would i go? I would probably like to live in China, because I would like to live there, and has many pull factors.

What I Have Been Learning Over The Last Few Weeks

What I have been learning

So far over the last few weeks, I have learnt how to make a pick a path story, and learnt how they work. I wrote mine about someone stranded on an island, The post including the story is below this post.

I’ve also, worked on research about how to keep our oceans clean and safe and things that cause damage to our oceans.

How to keep our oceans safe and healthy

How to keep our oceans safe and healthy

Our oceans are in danger of being damaged by things that we do in our everyday life, which can be dangerous for both us, and marine life.
What causes damage.
The things that damages our oceans are plastic bags, because they may decide to fly away on a windy day, this damages our marine life the most because marine life sees it as food, consumes the plastic, and causes major damage.
Oil spills are also something that damages our ocean, these are caused by people being careless around the ocean, equipment breaking down natural disasters, and more.Dirty water also affects our ocean as this affects our marine life as the water is not clean and therefore our
marine life gets sick.
How to prevent it
Know you may be asking, how do I prevent this from happening? I don’t want our marine life to suffer. Here are a couple of ways to help because i don't want this to happen either,
1,Organise a beach clean-up, to clean-up plastic, rubbish, ect
To help get rid of unnecessary rubbish.
2,Try reduce putting rubbish, and even dirty water down drains! This goes through the drains into the oceans and if we keep putting rubbish down the drains, it may drastically damage marine life.
3, Try reducing using plastic bags, try using fabric reusable bags, so that if your bags do decide to fly away, it won’t be harming the marine life as much as plastic bags.
4,Be careful with rubbish around the beach, as these can fly away into the sea and causemarine damage, try using less rubbish that may be unnecessary around the beach, and when you can, put the rubbish in a bin.
My opinion
My opinion on this is that- it’s horrible that our marine life are in danger of being harmed, but if we can do something about it, it will definitely help.

Text-to-self and text-to-text Holly

Text-to-self

I connect to this text because i have been interested in ocean
pollution because when i was younger i had no idea how the ocean would
get polluted and wanted to learn more about it.

Text-to-text

Similarities between texts

-both about/include information about oil spills.
-both include lots of info about the damage caused.
-both have a story to tell

Differences

-One talks about the many ocean pollutions, the other talks about one type.

-The stories told are different
